Where I'm doing my internship in Nampa Idaho at my grandpas veterinarian hospital. I would want to learn how to see how to heal and help animals and see if this is the carrier that I would like to take. Their role in the community is to help animals in the area. Being in this internship can be a good thing for both me and the community. There is so many learning experiences that I can learn and since I help the people’s pets I am helping out the community and making it better.
My mentor is my grandpa and his friends at the hospital. My grandpa worked there and I think owns it now which is pretty cool. I think I can learn so much from everyone there like medicine or check ups. I can learn what is bad or good for your pets health and how to treat the pets when checking them. I can learn how to handle pets that are scared or crazier than others.
My goals for this is to find out if I would like this as a career or to learn all this new stuff. I’ve always wanted to be veterinarian or some kind of doctor and with this internship I can see if this is the path I would like into college and for my career. Plus this kind of medical work will be so cool to learn and to be able to know about for now and for the future.
All this will all be about the practices of medicine that I can show for my project that will introduce me to a whole new world of medicine.
Going into this internship I will have to be able to focus and to use my hard working skills to help me get through this internship. This will be a big hands on experience and there will be a lot of things that I will have to do so I have to get used to being focused the entire time and being able to do anything the people say.
In order to get my project done for exhibition I will have to multi task sometimes at work and after the day ends I will have to go home and recap my experiences that I had today and write them into the project. I can also have some help from my grandparents with stuff during work that I can't get to at that time. Also I will have to make a schedule that I will have to do so I can keep myself on track with the work load.
The challenges that came up while setting up my internship was finding a way to get to my internship and back, plus finding out what I will be doing for those three weeks. What I did to overcome these obstacles was to talk to everyone in my family and find out the best option for travel. I talked about the benefits of each way I can travel. I was either going to travel by plane or by car. Where I’m staying is at my grandparents house and she already has three other kids going to school so we thought it would be easier on them if i drove my own car or just save time and fly there. We discussed it and said it would be easier if I flew.
I am so excited for this internship I cant wait to start up in march. I will miss a lot of my friends and family and I won’t like to miss lacrosse because I will miss my first five games which kinda sucks but I’m so excited to learn all about veterinary practices.

Link Project
For my project I went into studying anesthesia and what it does. Since I was around anesthesia a lot the question really was out there of what is this made of and what can it do to you besides put you to sleep. I started asking my mentor and other employees on what are the harms of anesthesia. People today get really nervous when they have to put their pets under for surgeries and other veterinary work that the animals cant be controlled around. The good thing is today anesthesia is one of the most healthiest drugs out in the medical field and is made out of different compounds and drugs that make up anesthesia. How I studied this was by asking the veterinarians and the vet techs that deal with this drug everyday. Anesthesia is given by injection or inhalation, inhalation is used the most because it is easier to use and takes a shorter time for the patient to fall asleep. Though out my internship I was given the chance to help give pets the drug to go to sleep and it was nice to be able to conduct a study with everyone at the hospital.
Mentor Interview
My mentor's name is Jon Calhune and he is the owner of Idaho's Veterinary Hospital.
Q: Why did you choose to be a veterinarian?
A: There are many reasons why I chose this carrier but some reasons would be to be able to help the citizens that cannot say were the pain is, and a common reason for all of us here it's because we love animals.
Q: What's the toughest task of your job?
A: The hardest would be having to deliver bad news to the owners about their pet, and keeping the dogs on the table.
Q: How is the work environment?
A: besides being the only boy, it is a very fun place to be.
Q:How much school did you have to go through and which school did you go too.
A: I went to Colorado State University were I did 4 years of normal veterinary school then I got a bachalor degree which takes other 4 years. Then I did a few years of internships, then a few years of residency.
Q: Was it worth it?
A: Of course, I come to work everyday excited and proud of what I do. Making any animal feel better is rewarding enough.
